The Community Engagement Team supported We live as One event in response to local community leaders request for support of the local area.

Kingstanding is situated within 3 miles of major Games venue, Alexander stadium and an area of historic high deprivation and antisocial behaviour.

The event was organised in the wake of impending trial and sentencing of tragic murdered teenager Dea-John Reid, recorded as a racially motivated crime. In the lead up to the event, Kingstanding community experienced a largely publicised gas explosion which had heavily impacted the local community, therefore expressed need for the event was high and both incidents proved a need for bringing communities together.

The team were approached by BBC Radio WM producers to help publicise the event and arranged for Bishop Jaddoo to have an interview on Friday 1st July to promote activities and garner support.

The concept was based on the World CAFE experience in terms of bringing communities together and developing cohesion which is desperately needed in the Kingstanding area.
