Community Engagement team continued support for United By partner United Squash, promoting the Commonwealth sport to local and diverse communities. The venue host, Wolverhampton Lawn, Tennis and Squash club is situated just 1.5 miles from Games venue West Park, has historic low engagement with lower socio economic and ethnically diverse demographics.
Our team supported targeted engagement for organisers, sharing contacts and introducing to new audiences they would have otherwise not engaged with during planning stages of the event to ensure local groups had access to participation and involvement. We reintroduced Wolverhampton Wrestling club and Guru Nanak Gudwara who previously hosted United squash in summer 2021, to partner and promote within their communities. They also supported delivery sporting activities as part of the roadshow.
The day saw the teams deliver sports sessions to local Wolverhampton primary and secondary schools on rotation from 9-1:30. The event was then opened to local communities to participate with an evening barbeque. Promoting sport, physical and active well-being and positive pathways to Commonwealth sport.
