The Manchester Community Campus Social Coach Leadership Programme (SCLP) Workshop marked an important milestone in the Youth Charter’s 32-year journey of using sport, art, culture, and digital technology as tools for social and human development.
This event was the culmination of an extensive consultation process, bringing together a diverse network of public, private, third-sector, and community-based organisations. It created a rare space for national sport-for-development delivery agencies to connect directly with grassroots practitioners who are embedded within local communities. The rich mix of experience, generational insight, and practical wisdom shared in the room underscored a common goal to address the challenges facing young people in Greater Manchester while maximising the opportunities available to them.
Hosted at the Manchester Communications Academy, itself a legacy of earlier Youth Charter initiatives, the workshop highlighted both the ongoing need and the renewed potential for a sustainable, coordinated, and holistic approach to youth engagement. The recommendations generated from the Action Learning Scenario discussions reflect a commitment to building trust, respect, and generational understanding, while ensuring that solutions are co-designed with the communities they serve.
The momentum generated by this workshop is both a reminder and a call to action: that our collective efforts must move beyond dialogue into measurable impact, providing young people with somewhere to go, something to do, and someone to show them.
