B2022 Community Engagement team collaborated and hosted several events over the course of Black History Month 2021, encompassing the B2022 Commonwealth Games theme of 'Challenge and Celebrate'. We worked with key members of the Black community to offer a selection of youth, intergenerational, educational, inspirational and culturally relevant content for internal and external audiences.
The focus was to demonstrate the Past, Present and Future of Black experience, contribution and excellence in Birmingham and the West Midlands, encapsulating the scale and scope of the African Caribbean diaspora and the legacy continuing to be built through first, second and third generations born in the UK.
All events were an opportunity for participants from all backgrounds to enhance their Commonwealth learning and the impacts of Commonwealth legacy, as outlined in the Organising Committee's EDI Action Plan and Framework.
