A Muhammad Ali Legacy Opportunity for All…

As the world continues to search for answers to growing inequality, conflict, division, youth disengagement and a crisis of hope, perhaps the answer has been with us all along. His name was Muhammad Ali.

To many, Ali was the greatest boxer of all time. To history, he was far more. He was a humanitarian, a social activist, a champion of peace, a defender of justice, and a living example of courage, conviction and compassion.

Today, ten years after his passing, the challenge for all of us is not simply to remember Muhammad Ali. It is to continue his work.

In 2016, following the passing of "The Greatest", the Youth Charter and Muhammad Ali Centre launched the Float Like a Butterfly Social Coach Leadership Programme (FLAB SCLP). Built upon Ali's Six Core Principles of Confidence, Conviction, Dedication, Giving, Respect and Spirituality, the programme transformed a sporting legacy into a social, Sport for Development and Peace movement.

The programme recognised that the future champions of our communities would not necessarily be found in the boxing ring, on the football pitch, or on the athletics track. They would be found in classrooms, youth clubs, community centres, parks, faith groups and neighbourhoods across the world. They are the community in all of their identities, beliefs, and backgrounds.

The Social Coach is the modern-day embodiment of Muhammad Ali's spirit. They engage, equip and empower young people to overcome barriers, challenge injustice, build resilience and realise their potential.

At a time when governments are seeking solutions to youth violence, social exclusion, poor mental health, unemployment and fractured communities, the FLAB SCLP offers something unique: a proven human development model inspired by the life of the greatest sporting humanitarian the world has ever known.

The Youth Charter's Community Campus Model provides the delivery mechanism. The FLAB Social Coach provides the leadership. Muhammad Ali's values provide the moral compass. Together they create a Global Golden Thread connecting sport, art, culture, education, health, citizenship, enterprise and peacebuilding.

From Louisville to London. From Manchester to Moss Side. From Soweto to Sierra Leone. From Liverpool to Los Angeles. The message remains the same:

Float Like a Butterfly. Lead Like a Champion. Serve Like Muhammad Ali.

As the world prepares for future global events including the FIFA World Cup, Commonwealth Games and Youth Olympic Games, the true measure of success should not be medals won or stadiums built, it should be lives changed.

This is why the Youth Charter is calling upon the United Nations, IOC, FIFA, Commonwealth Sport, governments, cities, educational institutions, businesses and civil society organisations to adopt the Float Like a Butterfly Social Coach Leadership Programme as a global legacy framework - not as a project or a campaign but as a movement.

A movement that recruits, trains and deploys Social Coaches in every community. A movement that leaves a legacy long after the closing ceremonies have ended. A movement that ensures every child and young person, regardless of circumstance, has access to opportunity, hope and purpose. Muhammad Ali once said:

"Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth."

The Float Like a Butterfly Social Coach Leadership Programme is that service in action. It is the Golden Thread connecting the legacy of The Greatest to the aspirations of future generations. The bell has not sounded - the fight for justice, peace and opportunity continues.

Through every Social Coach, every Community Campus and every young person empowered to become the best version of themselves, Muhammad Ali's greatest victory is still being written.

The greatest legacy is not a title, it is a life of service.
