Our Heritage

A uniquely British School, bringing all the excellence of a British academic education while being firmly part of the Abu Dhabi community and the UAE.

The British School Al Khubairat is the Embassy School in the UAE and Abu Dhabi’s leading British, not-for-profit, co-educational day school. At the heart of our constitution is our status as a not-for-profit and academically non-selective community school. Our aim is to deliver excellence in teaching and learning, bringing everything that is outstanding about the British curriculum to the United Arab Emirates and we are members of IAPS, HMC, and BSME. The notion of Britishness, with its many distinctive characteristics and qualities, is intrinsic from community to curriculum.

BSAK was founded in 1968 and generously supported by the late President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, through the donation of land and Amiri Decree No. 5 of 1971 and is under the ongoing patronage of the British Ambassador to the UAE. We are immensely proud of these historic links, and today our long-standing reputation and heritage continue to shape our ethos, as we celebrate over 50 years of exceeding expectations.

Our Ethos

We have a very ambitious Purpose and are committed to striving to achieve it. In order to do this our strategic plan will keep us focussed, on course and challenged.

  • Our Purpose - A community committed to inspiring our students to create an impactful legacy

  • Our Mission - We nurture a genuine passion for learning. Providing the best teachers, leadership and support in a not-for-profit environment

Our Value Statements

So much of what makes BSAK exceptional comes from our core values, built on over 50 years of experience. To truly live our values, we have applied them to everything we do and this is described in the following statements:

Endeavour & Resilience

At BSAK we are constantly curious, we work beyond our abilities, nurture our talents and develop a life-long love of learning.

We think critically, accept life’s challenges and take calculated risks in the pursuit of all that life offers. We adapt, cope and thrive within an ever-changing world.

Empathy & Care

We develop authentic bonds with others, by being open to learning alternative points of view.

We care about our school and community, and we add value by noticing when others are in need of care or attention.

Honesty & Integrity

We have the courage to be honest about our own shortcomings, and the grace to speak sincerely to all.

At BSAK we learn to be confident in our judgement and be accountable for our actions in our inspirational world.

Life at BSAK

Life at The British School Al Khubairat, a non-profit fee-charging school for English speaking children in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Pastoral Care

Throughout their time as BSAK, our students are supported by an extensive network

of staff who are responsible for their emotional and physical wellbeing. We care about

our community, and add value by noticing when others are in need.

Houses

We encourage a sense of fun, community and team spirit, celebrating ourselves and

others for our effort and success.

Music

We share a love of music - our dedicated team of 13 ensures that every child can experience making music, discovering their talents and building skills to last a lifetime. From Primary Orchestra at 7am on Sunday mornings through to the Elite Funky Brass on Thursday evenings, the Music Department at BSAK is awash with the sound of music.

Sport

Sport plays a fundamental part in every student’s education and personal growth at BSAK.

Drama

The Drama programme at BSAK encompasses a full variety of activities to challenge and engage all students.

Art

Art is taught to all students. From Year 9 students are able to choose specific pathways that lead to the study of Fine Art, Photography and Graphic Design at GCSE and A Level.

Co-Curricular

The School offers an extensive range of co-curricular activities, across Primary and Secondary, enriching the educational experience for all.

Trips

We offer a wide range of trips to various destinations.

Wellbeing First

At BSAK, student wellbeing is a priority that encompasses everything that we do. , never more so since the disruption to social and emotional learning due to COVID. With that in mind at the start of last academic year we began a process of reviewing and reflecting on our wellbeing provision.

Sustainability

BSAK is committed to raising global citizens, who are aware of their world, their environment and how they can contribute to sustainability. In 2018 we decided that we wanted to nurture agents of change and created a plan to improve our community and develop leadership among our students to really make an impact on the world in the future.

Community Project Examples:

Al Khubairat Singers

This is a community choir who are made up of anyone who wants to sing, regardless of ability. The school gives them the facility for free in the evening and they have over 70 people from all walks of life from ages 11 to 75. They perform at various events and also support the school when we need a large group of singers as they join with our own school choirs. They are given a practice hall for free one evening a week and more, when required. Our Director of Music gives up her time to conduct.

Abu Dhabi Scouts

This well established group has access to a hall, outdoor facilities and classrooms when requested. They meet at the school 2 evenings a week and the facilities are free for them to use.

Ukraine School (soon to be actioned)

With the tragic conflict in Ukraine, a number of Ukrainians have sought refuge in the UAE. To bring their community together they are looking at organising a weekend school for their children. We will give our facilities for free so that they can come together.
